020-Godzilla vs Penncrest Drumline
An epic battle ensued as Godzilla attacked Penncrest High School. Members of the drumline fought valiantly amidst flames and smoke. Will they save the school – and the world? I used forced perspective photography to make a 10 inch toy appear larger than the kids. To get the perspective I used a 16mm focal length, had the camera on the ground pointed up slightly and Godzilla as close as I could to mostly fill the frame and have everything in focus. Then I positioned the kids to get the size and proximity to look right. I used my D750 because it has built in wireless and I could control the camera from my tablet. This allowed me to keep the camera in one place and not have to move it to get or check the shot and also to be able to position the kids, as well as show them the way the scene looked so they knew where to focus their attention. This was the first I’ve used the tablet this way and it really worked perfectly. I did some basic edits in Lightroom, then work in Photoshop to merge in a fire-like texture which gives the basic pattern in the scene, some edits in the grass so that it didn’t look so large, used some smoke shots from a few weeks back – some for the fire and injury on his chest and also for the atomic breath (Godzilla doesn’t breath fire or smoke, it is more like a blue beam). After all the edits in PS, I did a bit more in LR.
