037-In the Moment
Drum corps photography is all about being in the moment. You have 100+ people on the field and you are trying to find the special moments, which might be temporarily hidden from view by other performers, props, judges or any number of things. I try to feel the energy of the performance and look for those special opportunities. For a "In the Moment" challenge, I found this bass drummer with the Raiders right at the end of the show and stuck with him for a few frames. He was way in the back and I happened to see him through everything happening between us. We were in the moment, with me feeling his energy and seeming like he was performing just for me. It definitely felt in the moment. I featured this photo in my Drum Corps World article, explaining the moment of taking the photo. Later in the season, I happened to run into his mother who did not know about the article. She was thrilled.
